January 2017

Start the New Year with Neighbors

First meeting of 2017 — Monday, January 16round tables
San Diego Indoor Sports Club
3030 Front Street
(from First Avenue turn west on Palm,
then right on Front)

Socialize at 6 — meeting begins at 6:30

Last January the BHCG kicked off the year with an opportunity to hear more about issues important to our neighborhood. Organizations familiar with these topics hosted round tables. Attendees rotated among the tables throughout the 90 minute meeting.

This year the BHCG will provide another opportunity to learn more about the changes and challenges taking place in our neighborhood, who is involved in the decision making and how to include your opinions.

We’ve selected these top issues and organizations from Bankers Hill for round table discussions at our Monday, January 16 meeting. Are you interested in several? Don’t worry…you’ll have time to participate at multiple tables throughout the evening.

— The Bankers Hill representatives to the Uptown Community Parking District will tell you about their plans to improve parking and maintain sidewalks, crosswalparking meterks and pedestrian safety. Share with them how you’d spend several hundred-thousand dollars still in the coffers. Bankers Hill committee chair, Doug Scott and other representatives of the parking group will be waiting for your comments.

— The Friends of Maple Canyon (FOMP) will host information about future plans for creating a more beautiful neighborhood asset. Improvements and changes are coming to one of the most popular canyons and walking trails in Bankers Hill.

— Ever wonder about the history of Bankers Hill? What are all those architectural styles and britt scrippswho lived in those homes? Amie Hayes from Save Our Heritage Organization (SOHO) will host a table offering the secrets to Bankers Hill. (secrets?!?)

— Would you like to have a say in what happens in Balboa Park along Sixth Avenue? This area is called the “West Mesa” and there’s a committee that has the ability to make suggestions to the city. Benches, recreation facilities, trash cans and the impact of events like marathons and other uses of the West Mesa will be discussed. Bruce Dammann is a dedicated neighbor interested in improving this area of the park.

— We’ll be looking for your ideas to improve the quality of life in our neighborhood. What do you want the BHCG to share with the “powers that be”. Show up, speak up and learn how to participate in the BHCG Board and Steering Committee. Ann Garwood will be spearheading the discussion at this table.

There’s something for everyone!

We’re asking for four volunteers on the fourth Sunday of each month to donate a couple of hours to help our hosts. We set tables, serve lunch and coffee.

We’re starting a calendar for 2017. Can you sign up for one month or more?
